Shouse Starter Pack

Check your design before you commit.

A person at MBA reviews your Shouse design and your block, then emails you one personalised PDF within 3 business days — your kit price checked, your budget scoped and your next step clear.

How it works

From your design to your inbox.

Not a standard plan pack: built from your design and your block, and checked by a person at MBA. Four steps, starting from a design you’ve chosen or created — nothing is paid on this page.

  1. 1

    Choose or design your home

Pick a home from MBA’s catalogue, or design your own in the Shouse Designer. Starting from a sketch? MBA can model it for you.

  2. 2

    Order it from your design

In the Shouse Designer: place your home on your block if you have one, pick your colours and answer a few quick questions. No subscription needed.

  3. 3

A person at MBA reviews it

Your kit price and what it rests on, the rest of your budget, and your block — checked before anything is issued.

  4. 4

    Your PDF arrives by email

Emailed within 3 business days of your order: one personalised report for the design you submitted — ready to take to your builder and your lender.

Three ways to get it

  • On its own

Order it from your design in the Shouse Designer.

  • Inside a Preliminary Package

Included in both packages — no need to buy it first.

  • With Sketch to Shouse

Tick it when you order; MBA prepares it once your model is handed over.

What the review answers

Three questions, answered for your design.

The Shouse Designer already shows a live, indicative kit price as you design — free. The Shouse Starter Pack is that figure reviewed by a person at MBA, with what it rests on, the rest of your budget, your block and your next steps.

1Your Shouse Starter Pack answers

What is the estimated MBA kit cost — and what is it based on?

The kit estimate for the design you saved, with what every figure rests on stated beside it — so you can see what would move it.

  • The kit estimate inc GST, broken down by floor area
  • What every figure rests on
  • The design version it was built from

2Your Shouse Starter Pack answers

What will I still need to arrange and budget for?

The kit is one part of a build. Your report separates what MBA prices from the scope your builder and consultants price — ready to take to your builder and your lender.

  • MBA supply vs work and materials by others
  • Site, approvals and services
  • Construction and fit-out

3Your Shouse Starter Pack answers

What do we know — and what still needs checking?

Every fact about your project carries where it came from — what public mapping shows, what you told us and what still needs a professional.

  • Each item marked by status and source
  • What to resolve, provide and investigate next

What “reviewed by MBA” means

A person at MBA reads your design, the pricing basis and what is still unknown before the report is issued, and holds it back if something needs fixing first — so you decide your next step on a reviewed basis.

Choose your route

On its own, or inside your drawings.

Check the costs first with the Shouse Starter Pack on its own — or go straight to a Preliminary Package, which includes it. Tell us where your design is and each button goes to the right place.

Decide on drawings later?

You can. What you pay for it comes back as credit: for 30 days after your Shouse Starter Pack is issued, the amount comes off a Preliminary Package, a Site Plan or a Rendered Image ordered for that design in the Shouse Designer. When you order a Preliminary Package, MBA also updates your Shouse Starter Pack for the design you submit, so you hold one current report.

Catalogue or Custom?

It’s the design you start from, not the quality of the documents — both get the same set and the same Shouse Starter Pack. Catalogue is a published MBA home, with changes limited to existing window and door sizes, colours and its placement on your block. Custom is your own finished model, or a catalogue home changed beyond that. It documents a model that already exists — designing it is not included.

Starting from a sketch? Add the Shouse Starter Pack when you order Sketch to Shouse — MBA prepares it as soon as your model is handed over.

In a Preliminary Package

The same report, with the drawing set.

A real sheet from the Pod’s preliminary set — the east elevation with its levels, finishes and window & door schedule. A package adds the full set to the same Shouse Starter Pack.

  • Site and floor plans
  • Four elevations, in your colours
  • Window & door schedules
  • Roof plan and shadow study
  • Levels, flood & bushfire noted
  • A rendered image
  • The A3 set, with a revision register
  • Your Shouse Starter Pack — included

Plus a location plan on larger blocks. Preliminary documents — not construction drawings.

Good to know

Questions, answered.

Still unsure? Ask a real person at MBA.

Do I need a design first?

Yes — a chosen or created Shouse design is the basis for both. Choosing a home from the catalogue counts: you don’t have to model one yourself, subscribe or own land first.

Must I buy the Shouse Starter Pack before preliminary drawings?

No. Both Preliminary Packages include the Shouse Starter Pack, prepared from the design you submit.

How does ordering a Preliminary Package work?

Order it for your design — a catalogue home on its own page, your own design from inside the Shouse Designer. MBA emails you a link to place your home on your block; the placement you submit is the version MBA works from. Your drawings and your Shouse Starter Pack are prepared and checked from that same version, then emailed to you.

Can I add it to Sketch to Shouse?

Yes — tick it when you order Sketch to Shouse, for less than ordering it on its own. MBA prepares it as soon as your model is handed over, for the design as handed over.

Why buy a Shouse Starter Pack on its own?

To review the costs, and what they rest on, before you commit to preliminary documentation. What you pay for it comes back as credit: for 30 days after your Shouse Starter Pack is issued, the amount comes off a Preliminary Package, a Site Plan or a Rendered Image ordered for that design in the Shouse Designer.

What is the difference between the Catalogue Preliminary Package and the Custom Preliminary Package?

The design you start from — not the quality of the documents. Both packages carry the same drawing set and the same Shouse Starter Pack. The Catalogue Preliminary Package documents a published MBA home, with changes limited to existing window and door sizes, colours and its placement on your block; the Custom Preliminary Package documents your own finished model, or a catalogue home changed beyond that.

Does the Custom package include designing my house?

No. It documents a model that is already finished. Designing or modelling it is separate — you can draw it yourself in the Shouse Designer, or MBA can model it from your sketch with Sketch to Shouse (a separate service).

Do I need a subscription?

Not to choose a published design, buy either option or receive what you order. Editing a model yourself needs a Shouse Designer subscription ($29/month inc GST).

Can I order before buying land?

The Shouse Starter Pack, yes — without a block the report covers what to look for when you choose one, and leaves out the block pages. A Preliminary Package is drawn for your home on a nominated block, so you’ll need that block’s address to place your home.

Is this a fixed build price or engineering?

No. The Shouse Starter Pack is an indicative kit estimate — not a kit supply quotation, a fixed construction price or an engineering certificate. Preliminary documents are for early project and planning discussions, not construction or certification. Site-specific engineering comes later, inside the Engineered MBA Kit, and the formal supply quote follows it.

What happens if I change the design afterwards?

What MBA issues relates to the design version you submitted; later edits in the Shouse Designer don’t change it. An updated Shouse Starter Pack for a changed design or block is a revision, priced when you order it. A revised drawing set is a revision under MBA’s terms.

What if I already bought a Shouse Starter Pack?

What you pay for it comes back as credit: for 30 days after your Shouse Starter Pack is issued, the amount comes off a Preliminary Package, a Site Plan or a Rendered Image ordered for that design in the Shouse Designer. When you order a Preliminary Package, MBA completes the Shouse Starter Pack already in progress, or issues an updated one for the design you submit, at no further charge — so you hold one current Shouse Starter Pack, not two.

When will I receive it?

A Shouse Starter Pack you order on its own is emailed within 3 business days of your order, once MBA has reviewed it. A package’s drawings and Shouse Starter Pack are emailed when MBA has prepared and checked them from the placement you submit. Working to a date? Tell us when you order.
